Interview: Whitney Perry

Whitney Perry intetview on ClosetMouse

In working with Whitney Perry and her manger Stacy Wells, it quickly becomes apparent that she has not only done well for herself as a model with a budding film career, but is lucky enough to be planning her wedding to well known male model Jason McPherson. Countless movies and books have created fictional lives just as this to depict...

a life of fantasy or great fortune; in Whitney’s case, it’s all a reality! But the story doesn’t end there, Whitney is a real down to earth person, the type we all strive to be. So it goes without saying, the company Whitney keeps is of the same caliber. Like Stacy Wells, who has been a pleasure to work with and so too is Jonathan Leon of Lolipop glass art who fostered the original introduction.

Not to take any of the much deserved lime-light from Whitney Perry, Jonathan turns out to play a role in all of this… read on, enjoy the interview and we'll get back to that in a minute.

Michael Godinez: If modeling or acting was not an option, which profession would you choose and why?
Whitney Perry: I always wanted to be a veterinarian in my youth because I love animals so much, but as an adult I would have to say working with organizations to place abused or neglected animals in loving homes.

Michael Godinez: Is there an opportunity that has passed that you feel you should have taken but decided not to?whitney-003 Whitney Perry: I'm sure there are, but I try not to look back with regrets.  My personal view is that everything truly happens for a reason.  I may have missed out on something, but if I dwell on that, I won't appreciate what I have now.  And who knows, if I had taken that opportunity, I quite possibly would have gone in a different direction and missed out on what I have now!  I feel blessed to have my life now and the people in it!

Michael Godinez: We know you get to rub elbows with some of the biggest designers in the world, so please do your best to be objective, who is your favorite designer and why?
Whitney Perry: I have a few favorites.  My favorite shoes are designed by Salvatore Ferragamo.  When I wear Ferragamo shoes I feel as if I'm wearing art!  I love every pair that I own!  I adore Michael Kors.  His work is classic, yet sophisticated.  You can dress most of his pieces up for an evening out and dress it down for daytime so they're perfect for any occasion.  But my favorite evening gown designer is Valentino.  I must admit that I have an addiction to Valentino.  Ha!

Michael Godinez: Please list some of the designers you know personally.
Whitney Perry: I know several personally and have worked with some of the best in the industry.  But, I am close friends with a couple of jewelry designers that have inspired me with their pieces and I actually am the face of their lines.  One is my amazing friend, designer and director, Lonnie Senstock, and the other is my dear friend, Jonathan Leon, the designer behind LOLIPOP Glass.

Michael Godinez: How did you first meet Jonathan and how does his glass art strike you; if I may pose the question in this way.
Whitney Perry: Jonathan and I met through mutual friends in the industry.  He sent me some of his jewelry to wear on red carpets and various events, and I fell in love with his work immediately.  It is so stunning!  The best part is that each piece is unique.  No two pieces are alike, so when I'm wearing his work, I know that no one else has the same piece!  And anyone who wears his fabulous line will have that same feeling.  It's amazing to know that what you have on is one-of-a-kind!

whitney-005Michael Godinez: If you were to commission a piece; any type of piece, from Jonathan, what would it be? Would it be ok by you to reproduce this item and offer it as a Whitney signature piece to the public?
Whitney Perry: I'm a typical girl, and my favorite color is pink, so I would say that a pink heart would be perfect to represent me.  When I sign autographs, I always sign with a heart.  I also love monogrammed pieces or initials, so I would love to have a line of initial pendants.  Such a personal touch!

Michael Godinez: Where do you see yourself in one year’s time?
Whitney Perry: Professionally, I see myself finishing my four films and hopefully carrying the lines that I represent to another level.  But personally, I see myself volunteering more of my time to help others.  Over the past couple of years I have tried to become much more active in various charities.  I love to be involved in any way I can!  I also hope that my fiance, Jason, and I have most of our wedding plans completed by then, as we set our date for a year and a half from now.

Michael Godinez: You mentioned taking the lines you represent to the next level; what do you mean by that? And what is your involvement with these lines?
Whitney Perry: I simply meant that I want to help them gain more exposure via the campaigns that we are working on.  I hope that we can pull in a whole new crowd that has yet to experience such beautiful pieces.  Once people wear it, really experience the beauty of both lines firsthand, they'll fall in love!  The pieces speak for themselves!  I would like to help in any way that I can, and eventually I would love to put my personal touch on a couple of pieces here and there.  I've always wanted to become more involved in design.  I'd love to eventually have my own clothing line. I really want to collaborate with a designer to start a small collection or pieces that has a little bit of my personality incorporated.

Michael Godinez: Given the love you have expressed for animals, do you have any of your own? Or a childhood pet you would like to share a story about?
Whitney Perry: YES!  I have so many animals!  I take in every stray I can find!  If I can't care for them, I work to find homes to give them the love and attention that they deserve.  I personally have 5 cats that I took in when they had nowhere else to go.  Three of them I nursed back to health.  The vet told me that they didn't have a very good chance to live, so I would feed them every four hours, just as their mother would, until they were strong enough and old enough to eat soft food on their own.  They all survived!  I also have 2 turtles and a Chihuahua named Marc Jacobs.  He's my baby!  I take him everywhere!  I literally treat him as my child.  I always had unique animals when I was young.  I had 2 ducks and a 2 rabbits that I adored!

We thank Whitney Perry and her team for their time. Since the interview, rumors are circling that Jonathan Leon may be making a collection of hearts which may or may not carry the title of Whitney Perry. ClosetMouse will keep tract of this and Whitney's happenings and report back to you with a follow-up interview.
